G.R.I.T.S AND GOTCHA

Last week my BFF Declan aka Deccy the handsome Greyhound who gives us chill bumps asked us a very serious question...

WHAT ARE GRITS

Well being Southern gals we were happy to help our Dahlin Deccy figure out this perplexing question so that he was no longer
addled

Official definition: finely ground particles. The official name is hominy grits which is made from corn.  They are considered a hot breakfast cereal like oatmeal. Mom told him when she makes grits she makes a gracious plenty for everyone
Deccy was quite happy to finally have this cleared up and was thrilled to learn that he was about 3/4 right on what he thought Grits were.  Mom also explained that you can buy flavored grits which she highly recommends to those not RAISED on grits as they are an acquired taste

Well being the Southern girl always ready to help Mom went a step further telling Deccy there is also another form of GRITS which is quite popular in our neck of the woods
G(irls)R(aised)I(n)T(he)S(outh)
And we have an official G.R.I.T.S Tee Shirt with all
kinds of Southern sayings on the back.  Mom and I,  Puddles and her Mom say them about 87 million times a day, 7 days a week.
Deccy sugah it was mighty nice of you to ask
Ta Dah....

Of course I was happy to participate in this very important
Q and A by posing with Mom's G.R.I.T.S tee Shirt
well we are about wore out from this post so we're
a-going to hush our mouths

AND SINCE WE ARE ON THE SUBJECT OF
G
TODAY IS MY 10TH GOTCHA DAY

10 years ago today May 11, 2002 my peeps and I
looked into each other's eyes and it was
love at first MOL.
We want to thank Mama J over at SASS for making this most beautiful banner last May 2011 for my 9'th Gotcha day.
Mads is one of the many 'terms of endearment' my Mom calls me.

  2. Well I'll go to the foot of our stairs! (A Yorkshire exclamation) I came over all unnecessary with you calling me Sugah. *sigh* Mum says she is off to Amazon to search for Grits now! We love your phrases and even know some of them. Interestingly Shake a Leg is also a bit of a Yorkshire expression! And of course, hurry up and wait... Mum has been in love with Debbie Harry for years! (not that she's a GRITS!)just her song lyrics...

A very very happy Gotcha Day Madi mate. Make sure Mom spoils you rotten - even more so than usual!
    Love Dec x

  3. Well I do declare Miss Madi, that is one mighty fine grits (both kinds)) post from our favorite NC gals. Grits (both kinds) are a true Southern delicacy that we willing share with the rest of the world. Finding them on this coast however takes a little digging around on the grocery shelves sometimes. All of a sudden I have a craving for girts and red-eye gravy.

Happy Gotcha Day! Mama J made a gorgeous banner.

    Hugs,
    J

I was raised on grits and it is NOT a cereal. we eat it for dinner to and eat it with butter and cheese. never ever put milk or sugar on grits. my yankee doodle dandy hubby had never had grits, now he LOVES it and is very happy when I give him cheese grits for dinner.

  16. Well our Mom is not a true southerner since she is not a grits lover. She just couldn't get so she liked them but she hasn't tried them in a long time so maybe she could finally become a Southern gal.
Happy Happy Gotcha day Madi. We sure are glad you found that wonderful family that you have. Have a super week end.

  28. Happy Gotcha Day, sweet Madi! A glorious day for you AND for your Mom and Dad!

We have never had grits, Mom hasn't either. She really can't handle oatmeal, she just can't even put it in her mouth. She gets so mad about it because so many people love it and it is good for you. But we bet if your Mom made the grits, our Mom would love them.

Love the t-shirt and the story behind it.
